Hello!
My name is Emily Haeun Yi, and I am a senior at the Orange County School of the Arts in the Visual Arts Conservatory. I have a passion for creating art using various mediums including acrylic and oil paint, ceramics, photography, charcoal/colored pencils, mixed media, and much more!
In addition to my love for art, I am particularly inspired by history and enjoy exploring its rich tapestry that weaves across our diverse cultures. I also find great joy in working with children and aspire to inspire them through my art. It is rewarding to help them express their creativity while discovering our unique stories that shape the world!
Artist Statement
As an artist, my work is child-centered–seen through their eyes–drawing focus to their unique perspectives. By fusing the inspiration from my continuous engagement with the children at the shelters and the devastating reality of the children in today’s war torn regions, I sought to portray the piercing scar of conflict upon the youngest and most vulnerable.
My collection explores the psychological ravages of war on children, lost innocence, and the eternal human spirit that allows us to persevere but also draws us from the darkness of despair and into the light. I highlight the importance of clarity in understanding and interacting with the world we live in, which can be dramatically distorted when viewed through an aberrant lens.
As a society, we must mitigate the consequences of violent conflicts by shielding children. My pieces are created to evoke empathy, provoke thoughtful discourse, and inspire responsible civic duty through peace and harmony. They serve as a voice for the voiceless children, advocating for the innocent and helpless.
